Le lendemain, après un passage au lac de Taupo, nous continuons notre route vers le Mt Tongariro au centre de l'île du Nord, pour faire une journée de rando, la plus réputée de Nouvelle Zélande pour sa région volcanique, montagneuse et parsemée de lacs....Tongariro a été inscrit sur la liste du patrimoine mondial au titre du critère culturel concernant des paysages culturels car ce site a été offert à la couronne britannique par les Maoris en 1887 et devint "le lieu tabou de la couronne, lieu sacré sous la responsabilité de la reine" .
